POW - Lost on 20 June 1944 Mission #186 to Hamburg, Germany in B-17G #42-31997 (no name) 360BS (PU-F). Two engines were feathered before reaching the initial poing. They stayed in formation and dropped bombs on target. Immediately after "bombs away" they dropped down to the deck under control. Made a dead-stick landing near Nordall, Germany. S/Sgt
Hummer was not on that mission. When crew size was reduced to nine men, Hummer was transferred to an A-20 Light Bomb Group.
