My father was Benjamin Spindler. While it's been over 10 years since he passed away, I have visited this website a few times, mostly when I miss him. He also did not talk about this part of his

I knew several members of the 303rd BG; especially after the war was over, but some of them during the war. Maj. Hayes was our Engineering Officer on Project Aphrodite, and I flew the first robot
mission on that project, and bailed out over England. I was a pilot in the 385th BG at Great Ashfield from May 1944 to Dec 1944, and arrived in USA in Jan 1945.

JOSEPH "JAKE" SABO, MY UNCLE WAS A TAIL GUNNER SERVING WITH THE 8TH. IN TRIBUTE TO HIM AND HIS AIR MATES, I'M PAINTING A PICTURE. SO FINDING HIS CREW AND B-17G PLANE MARKINGS WOULD BE OF GREAT HELP. A
STORY I REMEMBER WAS HIS CRASH LANDING WITH ONE ENGINE AND NO WHEELS IN RUSSIA AFTER BOMBING A NAZI OIL FACILITY. THE BALL TURRET GUNNER LOST HIS LEGS, AND JAKE THREATENED A DISINTERESTED RUSSIAN
OFFICER WITH HIS 45 SAYING "HE DIES YOU DIE." ELOQUENT! FOR THIS HE LOST HIS STRIPS. LOYALTY, DEDICATION, DETERMINATION AND WAR WEARY FEAR WERE ALL THERE. THE TURRET WAS A WOMB, THE CREW MID-WIVES,
THE OXYGEN CONNECTION AN UMBILICAL CORD. SO THE THEME IS REBIRTH. CAN YOU HELP ME WITH FILLING IN DETAILS? AND THANKS FOR MY FREEDOM BOUGHT WITH YOUR YOUTH AND LOSSES. GOD BLESS YOU. DOUG OPALSKI

On October 2, 1992, the secretary of the Air Force acknowledge and honored a unique group of WWII Veterans.
A little know story of WWII was the relationship of the U.S. and Russia during the time prior to Russia declaring war on Japan. According to International Law, Russia was a neutral country and was
obliged to intern personnel of warring nations if they were within the control of Russian armed forces.
Until the mid 1980’s, the activities of these airmen was highly classified.
It all started with the famous Doolittle Raiders. One crew, Lt. York’s, due to a fuel shortage, landed north of Valdivoltok instead of China, and were instantly interned. Over the next three years
thirty six other crews, for a total of 291 Americans met the same fate. With the exception of 4 B-29 crews of the 29th Air Force, these airmen were members of the old Army Air Corps and Navy Air Wing
4 form the Aleutian Islands. They were flying missions against the Japanese Kurile Islands.
In case of aircraft damage the preplanned escape route was to Petropovlavsk, Kamchatke Peninsula. “Petro” was a holding point until a group became large enough to move across Siberia to another
holding point at Tashkent Russia. The trip across Siberian R.R. to flying in old C-47 is with Russian crews. All in all five separate groups were held and released by various methods. The last group,
of which I was a member was released after the war had ended.
The survivors of the ordeal have formed an organization known as the “Americans Home from Siberia” and are a part of the Eleventh Air Force Association.
On October 3, 1992 at the banquet following the 11th Air Force Reunion Air Force Lt. Gen. Tom McInerney made a surprise presentation of the P.O.W. medal to the members that were present, recognizing
them 47 years after the fact.
There were over 200 USAAF personnel, and 64 Navy personnel approved the POW medal.
Secretary of the AF Rice signed a blanket authorization for approximately 218 airmen in 1992.
Secretary of the Navy Garrett III, and Acting Secretary of the Navy O'Keefe signed letters of authorization to approximately 64 airmen in 1992.
There were over 200 airmen held at Wauwilermoos Prison in Switzerland, a neutral country as well.
They were placed in the prison for punishment apprehended while attempting to escape. Such an act by the Swiss was a violation of the Geneva Convention, Article 56, dated 1929.
War Crimes testimony reveals circumstances, which the Secretary concerned should have found to have been comparable to those under which persons have generally been held captive by enemy armed forces
during periods of armed conflict.
However, the Air Force is denying recognition for those that suffered acts not suitable for public view. The simple recognition many living veterans and/or next of kins are asking is the Prisoner of
War Medal.
To date there have been two internees approved the POW medal held in the prison.
First, to a veteran authorized by General Fogleman AF Chief of Staff, presented by Lt. General Record in 1996.
Second, to a veteran approved by AFBCMR in 2006 with the help of his daughter, and Congressman Matheson of Utah.
Where is the balance of recognition?
Where is the support by members of the Eighth AF?
Some members may believe there are more important things going on. To the former internees, and next of kins of those passed, believe me when I say it is very important to receive recognition for
their ordeal spent in a prison for attempting to do the correct act.
If you happen to be interested in copies of the initial guideline authorizing the POW medal, copies of letters by the Secretaries, letter from General Fogleman, photograph of the presentation,
conclusion of approval by the AF, conclusion of denial by the AF, please contact me.
As a veteran of a more recent era, there is no doubt there are former members of the Eight Air Force that are interested to step up to the plate, and support our fellow veterans.

Although an 8th AAF enthusiast, I visited your amazing site looking for information about the hospital at Lilford Hall. I am working for the agent to the current owner of the hall and I am trying to
establish details of the closure of the footpath from Lilford village to Lilford Lodge and which passed just south east of the nissen huts forming the site. It passed in front of Keeper's Lodge. The
aerial photo on your site shows this path made up to a roadway and I would welcome any info. on the arrangements for closing the footpath, which appears on old editions of the Ordnance Survey map.
Congratulations on the site, keep up the good work! Kind regards, Richard

Colonel Robert J Hullar was the Commander of the 401st Combat Support Group(TAC) at England AFB, LA in 1963 when I began my active duty service as a new 2nd LT in the Transportation Squadron. I had
numerous contacts with Col Hullar during TAC rotations, ORI's, etc., and found him to be a wonderful role model for all the junior officers on the base. At the time, I didn't have any particular
interest in WWll and didn't ask any questions of the older guys who were veterans of that war. I have just now learned of Colonel Hullar's heroic service in the 8th Air Force and regret not having the
opportunity to thank him for his great service to the nation. If I had to pick the one person I met in the Air Force who I'd most like to emulate, it would be Colonel Hullar. I'm sorry that I never
had the opportunity to tell him so. Sincerely, Bob Murphy

I build models of the B-17 and now have plans to complete the plane with the "thunderbird" nose art and identifers. I was hoping to find some information and pics of the plane and crew, because it
allows me to see and get in my own way, an idea of the crew and plane who gave so much. My grandfather was a WWII vet, my father a Vietnam vet/Retired Navy and I am a Desert Storm Vet/Retired Air
Force. I have built more than a few of the planes, and this site and refs will help me do right with: "Thunderbird." Thank you for your time and what a great job you have done! You have done well
for all the 303rdBG! I have studied this plane over the years and I take pride in each project. Thank you! Jay

First I want to thank each and every service man that served in WW2. To strap into a B-17 and fly into harm's way takes a very special individual.
I do have one question. My uncle flew as a navigator in B-24's during the war. He flew out of England. He also won the distinguished flying cross. I want to find out more about him and his unit.
Unfortunately he passed away and he did not talk about his service with his family. Any help would be great.

Thank you all very much.

I am the son of ret. LtCol William D. Cargill, who made a lot of the first missions (3,5,14,19,20,25,26,28,32,33,and 46 as a bombardier. He was hooch-mate of Jack Mathis MOH winner.
He is still alive and very active at 89 yrs of age and bicycles 25-50 miles per week. Lives at AF Village II in San Antonio. I doubt that anyone remembers him because he was the only surviving
officer of his original sqdn and only surviving officer of the three crews to which he was assigned, and when he went up to the division headquarters as 1st Div Bombardier, he was about the
youngest amongst a bunch of old folks. However, I would love to hear from anyone who remembers him. At the last re-union, it was all "Johnny come lately's," and none of the original Hell's
Angels of the 359thBS, 303rdBG(H) or the folks up at the Wing HQ. When, as a young Marine Lt, I told him about the terrible casualties my little 9th Marine Regiment had taken on Dewey Canyon in
two months (1969 Vietnam: 130 killed in action and 932 wounded), he told me, "Lt! Stop your belly-aching -- you don't know anything about casualties."

I happened to be looking for a hotel in London and saw this article about the red cross in Grovener Square. I was in London in 1945 and was quartered in the Red Cross red cross building. I was a U.S.
Navy Shore patrol in London for three months after spending a year in France,Begium, and Holland and loved the place. I will never forget the wonderful girl who worked for the Red Cross and worked as
a volunteer there. Her name was Patricia Bernardi La Morta and I thought I was in madly in love with her. However she decided that I lacked education and was was an undisciplined city boy from Chicago
and told me that I should learn to speak proper English. Wow, that hurt. She was a student at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and I felt we had we had something in common, I was a musician and
will never forget her because she made me realize how right she was. So I came back home and attended two music conservatories and became a music director/conducror of symphony orchestras and directed
two opera companies in California> I am also a retired composer. God bless you Paricia, if you are still alive. write me. I really had a crush on you!!!

Ref: What brought you here?
My purpose is the research I have been involved the past year regarding the unbalanced scale of recognition of WWII former internees.
It would involve a substantial amount of space in your guest book to fully explain myself.
I noticed there were aircraft assigned to 303rd during WWII that were forced to land/crash in Switzerland. I have not determined if any of the crew(s) attempted to escape, apprehended, and
sent to Wauwilermoos Prison.
It was a violation of the Geneva Cinvention Article 56, dated 1929.
War crimes testimony by a number of personnel describe conditions were found to match or exceed “circumstances which the Secretary concerned finds to have been comparable to those under which
persons have generally been held captive by enemy armed forces during periods of armed conflict.”
Compared to over 200 internees held in the Soviet Union that were awarded the POW medal in 1992 in accordance with the inital guideline approved by President Reagan in 1986, there have only
been a total of two interees of Wauwilermoos that have received the medal.
Currently, members of the AF Board for Correction of Military Records are denying requests for the medal. Regarless of one being approved in 2006 by the same board, and the second by General
Fogleman in 1996.
Question: What support has been offered by the 303rd to fellow members held at Wauwilermoos?

I have posted what war time pictures there were from my family's archive of photos. Please visit my site to view them.

For GERALD MCCAIN and his reference about HALF A WING THREE ENGINES AND A PRAYER, be advised as a good friend of Bob Hullar, I knew him for the two years I was at Molesworth. We were close friends. We
went to Africa together at the end of the war in the ETO. There is another Book, (not as factual as HALF A WING THREE ENGINES AND A PRAYER) titled MASTERS OF THE AIR, by Donald Miller. Both have good
references of the 8th Air Force and are worth reading. Cheers! BILL HELLER.

I read a book written about the 303rd and this prompted me to search for your web site. I think the book was called "Half a Wing Three Engines and a Prayer". Molesworth is not very far from where I

Dear Fellow Veteran:
In 1998, I began my project to collect stories from World War 2 veterans and their families for the purposes of preserving and presentation to today’s youth, adults and future generations before these
memories will one day no longer be available.
My collection of over 215 World War 2 stories has received appreciation and recognition from the General Patton Memorial Museum at Chiriaco Summit in California where it is exhibited during special
events.
Please contact me to discuss the details of my project, and how you can be an important source of World War 2 history by telling your story about your personal military service and sacrifices.
Participant references and testimonials regarding my work are available.

D.O. Huddleston was my father-in-law and I am astounded to find information and his picture on this web site!!! I was researching other information on the internet when I ran across this site & I am
thrilled to see him in this picture. He told me about his days as a Gunner, and here it is 25 years later and I just accidentally found this site. I will treasure this photo of him forever! He was a
very, very handsome man in his 60's & 70's.....and I had no problem picking him out in this picture. I was married to his only child, Dr. Robert Huddleston ( who is now deceased), and I had not seen
"Daddo" (as we lovingly called him) since my divorce from Bob in 1986. Daddo died a few years after we divorced and I was so sad, as I loved him so much! He was always wonderful to me, and I have such
fond memories of him. He was a brilliant and very successful businessman in the oil and gas business in West Texas. I was the only one in the family who really loved to go with him to the "oil fields"
and check on his investments. I remember he was always dressed "fit to kill" and wore a cowboy hat, dress slacks, a sports coat & expensive, polished cowboy boots (with one pants leg always caught in
one of them! ha!) and we would leave the rest of the family and take off in his Cadillac (which I called his "land yacht") and head for the oil fields. When we got close to the tanks, he would tell me
to roll down my windows and he would always ask, "Dahlin', do you smell anything?". I'd say, "yes Sir, Daddo", and he would say, "that's the smell of MONEY, Honey!". He would take me up on the cat
walks along the tanks and we would just stand and look at all of his land and investments. It took us some time to make the rounds as he owned several large farms and ranches between Lubbock and
Midland. (He lived in Lamesa, TX.) Fast forward many years, and I have been a Real Estate Broker for 20 years in Arlington, TX and I handle Farms, Ranches, Land, Residential, Commercial and
Receivership properties. I often think about Daddo and how I wish I could consult with him about my business.....especially about the Barnett Shale! He would be loving this gas boom soooooo much! I
wish I had of learned everything I could from him. He was the smartest man who made it big, all on his own, despite the hardships of the times. I just wish we could of had a chance to work together,
but it wasn't to be. I'm just thankful that I had the time I did with him. He was so kind & good to me and very generous to all. I will always love and miss him. God bless all of you who served with
him. My own Father, J.E. Weaver served in the Army at the same time that Daddo served in the Air Force. I am grateful to you all for your service to our Country. God Bless you all! Cherri Huddleston

Hi there, my name is Eddie and I currently work on the base at RAF Molesworth as well as RAF Alconbury. I am a scale plastic modeller of all disciplines - particularly WW2 aircraft. I am building a
P47D Thunderbolt at the moment and would like to finish the model in the scheme seen in the a painting by Keith Hill. I would like to confirm if the scheme is correct ie overall silver with olive drab
anti dazzle strip between canopy and engine cowling. Also did the aircraft have the identification letter B or R on the fusealge ? I presume the aircraft didn't carry under wing armaments ? Finally,
how was the letter C in the red triangle allocated to the 303rd Bomb Group ? Many thanks for such an informative and caring site keep up the great work & I will be back to carry out further research
in the future ! Kind regards Eddie Pick

Dear Name Twin,
THANKS for such a thorough archive of a very special place and time!
I have a LOT of mentors who guided me through my Army career (1980-2004, retired LTC). One of my mentors was a C-47 pilot whose first combat mission dropping paratroopers behind the D-Day beaches.
He avoided most questions about his tour, but he instilled in me respect and curiousity for this period of history and for those brave few who had sacrificed so much. I send my sincerest thanks to
them (and you) for their bold defense of freedom.
HOWEVER, I would also like to mention that by some strange quirk of fate, I was stationed at RAF Molesworth from 1998-2001. I walked those halls and defended freedom (in a slightly different way, and
nowhere as near as dangerous) with the heritage sketches, photos, and commemorative plaques adorning the otherwise sterile corridors.
Early in my time there, the O6 (COL)commander pointed out one of your sketches hanging near my workspace and jokingly asked when I had done it and how long it took. I was just stunned that the
coincidence had even occurred...let alone how motivational it was just before my deployment to Bosnia.
So, sir, your work of so long ago continues to be both an archive for those who respect what you did, and a motivator for young defense professionals three generations on.
Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Robert (Bob) W. Hand

lot of questions for me. I will cherish this cd for years to come and share it with my children and grandchildren. Thanks again for all who sacrificed to make America free.

Just wanted to provide a link to a video story that was broadcast on "CBS News Sunday Morning", on 9-16-2007. It is about the "Honor Flights to the World War II Memorial, Washington, D.C.".
I thought it might perhaps be of interest to the 303rd BGA members, their families, and anyone who shares with me, a great sense of appreciation and indebtedness to the brave heroes who fought and won
that very necessary second world war.
The link to the YouTube video is here.
I am the nephew of 2Lt., Wilbur V. Gee, Jr., 303rd BG, 360th BS., KIA.
Wishing you all Happy Holidays!

Unknown to me, a family member scouted the 303bg site and alerted me to it. I found it most interesting, definitely a trip down memory lane. I have just a couple of additions according to my
records. Also, I have a several photos not seen on web, possibly of interest - 1) B-17-F and crew taken stateside prior to leaving for Molesworth (Elmer Young, P.), 2) four strike photos provided
to me by the intelligence officer, as follows: initial daylight Berlin raid, Dijon (24 Dec '43), Poznan, Poland and Marienburg, Prussia . In addition, there are a few photos in my album of B-17
damage from missions. Please let me know if there is anything you find of interest.

Hi,
I live in Maastricht, some 10 Miles from Margraten and the American Cemetery. Very recently I have adopted the final restingplace of Franklin Leve and during my search for more information about him I
came across the 303rd Bomb Group website. I was instantly taken with the enormity of this site and the information stored within. I just wanted to tell you that we over here still have not forgotten
what you have done for us in WWII, contrary to what some people might say. Despite all the possible political reasons behind the war, the global interests and whatever, at the end of the day you guys
came over here, fought and died for us. And that is something that I and most of my fellow countrymen will never forget. I am 48 years old, so I was born after the war. But it always had a great
interest for me in books, movies, documentaries and (let's not forget) stories from my mother. Finally I am able to contribute a very small part to this by visiting Franklin Leve, put the occasional
flower by his grave and remember him.
Thank you for hearing me out.
Yours truly,
Maurice Mommers

Legislation On Saluting the Flag:
The action by Senator Inhofe of Oklahoma to sponsor legislation allowing
veterans and servicemen not in uniform to render the military salute during
hoisting, passing or lowering of the flag if they choose to do so instead of
placing the hand over the heart deserves applause. But, it's not a done
deal. His bill (S.1877) was approved unanimously in the Senate on July 25, 2007
and was referred to the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and
Civil Liberties on August 10, 2007. And there it sits. It doesn't become law
until it is moved to and passed in the House of Representatives and then signed
by the President. Until that happens, nothing changes and the old law is
still on the books.

In reviewing the 303rd I noticed a TechSgt with by the same name. Fortunately there was a picture of the Sgt. It is uncanny (and a little scary) how much he looks like my late father during the same
time the picture was taken. We know it was not my father since he was thousand of miles away from the 303rd. I am now very curious, because this may be a "lost" relative of ours of whom we do not have

I am 62. Our generation (boys, anyway)always had a keen interest in WW2. My fascination was aircraft.
Since retirement I have been studying WW2 a lot more as a pastime and have particularly focussed on the B17 and the 8th Air Force. Have just read several books including one on the 303rd.
I have been a professional meteorologist for 43 years and worked at Prestwick 1968-73 - renowned for its freedom from fog which often affected all airfields throughout NW Europe. US planes landed
there after crossing the Atlantic during ww2. When I was there, MAC were still doing the "Coca Cola runs" in C47s even then!
On nearby hills on the Island of Arran (2800ft) are crash sites of several aircraft. I was not interested or aware at the time, but as a camper and hill climber in about 1968 I came across crash
wreckage at about 2500 ft and found later it was a B24. (One of two, I believe). Our UK high ground and bad weather caused a lot of crashes and deaths even before combat was imminent. What a waste
the whole thing is. The public at large were never told at the time that half (about 25,000) of our British Bomber Command fatalities occurred in accidents.
I still have an exploded 0,5" shell case from the B-24 and at that time there were dozens. Made me think a hell of a lot about the brave people who died so tragically there so close to the airfield.
Life was cheap then. I see from a website that the very next day about 20 died when a fully laden B24 crashed and burned on take off on the Heathfield runway of Prestwick.
I worked in the Met Office with an older guy who told me he at one time worked in the RAF with a team who went to crash sites to pick up remains. He says he witnessed a fully laden heavy bomber
explode in mid air just after lifting off the runway.
On a more positive side, Prestwick must have been an exciting place in the early 1940s - all that state of the art US aircraft coming and going. 25 years later my greatest thrill there was to give a
met. briefing (albeit by telephone) to Sir Douglas Bader - our most famous WW2 fighter ace. He joined up despite having lost both legs in the thirties when he crashed his trainer (Avro 504 IIRC. It
was difficult to stay cool for me at 23 when a legendary British hero - who I knew all about from the book and film "Reach for the Sky" - was calling me "old boy"! In civilian life he had become an
executive aircraft pilot.
As a young forecaster there, I remember in about 1970 one of the senior forecasters talking about the disastrous Schweinfurt mission(s). I had never heard of them - tv documentaries and books on the
subject cannot have been widely available, I guess. There sure are plenty now and every time some of our next generation sound off in a negative way about America, I always remind them that about
26000 guys from the US operating from bases thousands of miles from home in Eastern England, gave their lives so that we and the rest of the world might stay free from Nazi rule. They seem to go
quiet then. I blame ignorance - most of them only think of the US military in a very negative way because they have been raised on movies about Vietnam, etc and do not seem to know of anything before
that. I suppose that must be the fault of folks in the media/arts and education belonging to my generation.
Anyway, warm regards to you guys on here with big respect.
Iain

Hello Charlie Hartigan ...
Re ur item anent your Dad, Bob Hartigan, he was in our training group and went overseas to Molesworth with us. About one month after he was shot down, a few of us who were his friends, were toasting
him in the O-Club Bar at Molesworth, when IN he walked. He had made it out of occupied territory with the aid of a French family and after getting to Gibraltar, was flown home to Molesworth. He was
sent home, as was the norm. When the 303rd Cadre was sent to Casablanca at the end of the war, I was with them. One day, walking near the Casablanca terminal, I saw Bob Hartigan, in a Pan Am uniform.
He had joned them and was flying with them in their CAM work. Later, after the war, when I was with the airlines, I had a layover in Hartford and I visited Bob in his beautiful corner HIGH office in
the City. That was the last I heard of him until I heard of his early demise. He was a close and good friend of mine. BILL HELLER.

This is really impressive. An obvious labor of love, and duty, and patriotism. Of course, all the men and women who served, and who do serve, in our armed forces deserve nothing less. But not many
hear that summons.
When thinking about heroes of the air, I can't help but think of Hebrews 12, which tells us of the "cloud of witnesses," who inspire us to "run with patience the race that is set before us."

My husband and I (retired military) had the privilege of attending the final reunion of the 303rd Bomb Group in Washington, D.C., September 2007. Has the DVD, taped during the activities, been
completed yet? Would you please send information how that DVD can be purchased? Thanks you for the unending work to keep this website up and running.
[We hope to have news on the DVD early next year. Info will be available on this website when we have it.]

I am a Royal Navy veteran and was at bootcamp at Shotley nr. Ipswich in early '44. We used to see your boys formatting over our parade ground and watch them returning -- often in trouble. I met
several aircrew members at a dance run by the British ATS women AA gun-crews and as a raw 17 year-old was somewhat awed by their combat stories. They were very gutsy and my hat goes off to them all.

I, daugher of Leo J. Del Rossa, a 303rd veteran (359 squadron), am looking, on his behalf, for information about his experience duing the war.
His pilot was Dukes. His plane was "Yo Yo KIng." A crew member was Arnold Buress, Ball Turret Gunner. He went to Airplane Mechanics School in Amarillo, TX. Then he was in Seattle, WA @ Boeing.
Then he went to Salinas KS, was approved for Cadet School as a Pilot. After a discussion about pay scales in Salinas, landed in gunnery schhol in Wendover UT. His last location in the states was at
Dyersburg TN for "high altitiude training."
We're just back from an emotional visit the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Savannah, GA, after which Dad was moved to discuss his war experience more so than ever before. I hope to hear form
someon who can help us with our research.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth M. Del Rossa Masters

My father, Staff Sergeant Darrell Lee Garlick, 303rdBGA, from Oklahoma, was stationed at Molesworth England. He was a Bombadier on the B-17, Hell's Angels. My father recently deceased on Aug.1, 2007.
He didn't talk much about the war until his later years. He spoke of all the men in this Group with much honor, respect and adoration.
I learned much from my father about the war. He made me understand the reason for the war; why Hitler had to be stopped at all costs; that everyone in this world has the right to freedom from
oppression. It took a tremendous amount of courage/guts to do what these men accomplished. I have an enormous amount of respect for all the men who served our country in WWII. Thank you to all, and
may God bless you.
The first time I got to look inside a B-17, I cried. The experience was so profound. It's amazing that these tin cans, held together with bolts and barely enough room to turn around, actually FLEW
hundreds of miles over enemy territory, through the German flack. But they got the job done!
Thank you for this great website in dedication to these men. The world must never forget. With this website, their legacy will continue. Love, Peace and Honor to all.

On Oct 13th 2007 US-Consul Mr. Wenig put flowers to the memorial of the crash of B17 crew of Ltd Barrat in Eisenberg/Germany. It was the 81st birthday of Raymond F. Reiss who died in the the crash on
Feb 9th 1945 near Eisenberg. Besides his wife Mrs. Wenig he was accompanied by Mr. I. Lippert (Mayor of Eisenberg) and Mr. J. Petermann (responsible for culture and history of the City of Eisenberg).

Thank you for a great site! I am a fan of the B-17 "Luscious Lady" since I read the book "3engines, half a wing and a prayer" and I now have also a A2 jacket with a fantastic painting on the back with
the "Lady" on it! I have many more books about the 303 which I read and re-read very often.
I'm looking for some more details on the fate of this particular bomber, the "Luscious Lady". If someone can help, please contact me via e-mail, thank you very much.

My Dad was stationed at Molesworth from Aug 1956 to Sep 1959, I lived in base housing and was all over the base, at that time only AP were station guarding bunkers and most of the base was closed, I
would go to the huts and look at the drawing on the doors and walls, and go the machine pits on the other side of the runway, I guess by now it is all gone, but they are not from my mind. The picture of the mess crew looks like it may have been take at Molesworth, There was a mess hall with the outside of the building looking like that.

Just returned from the final "Hell's Angels" 303 Bomb reunion in Washington. It was a fantastic reunion meeting former airmen who flew from Molesworth. I attended the reunion in memory of my brother,
Edward H. Thomas, Jr, 360th Squad who is now deceased. It was a honor being associated with such heroic airmen and regret that it is the last reunion. I am passing on his legacy to my grandchildren
who knew him and hopefully they will keep the legacy of the 303 for the future

I am researching US citizens who served with the RAF/RCAF during WWII. After Pearl Harbor, Many would transfer to the US Forces. To date, I've identified the following 303 BG personnel who served with
the RCAF before transferring to the USAAF. Bartlett, Middleton, Woddrop, Rolfson, Halpin, Bolsover, Kendall, Manifold, Murphy, Rogan and Harris. I'm attempting to identify if the following ex 303 BG
members were ex RAF: Knudson, Counts, Fleming, Sawrecki, Bowman, Brehm, and Tippett. I'd appreciate any contact with any of the above and/or relatives along with any other ex RAF/RCAF Americans.

I research USAAF aircraft crashes in the County of Leicester, (pronounced LESTER )..
I am seriously looking for a B-17 that crashed on November 9th 1944, so far without success. The date of 9th Nov'44 fits the very sad collision of 303rd B.G.B-17g's 337666 and 338057, but the location
given, WENLOCK, is a long long way from Leicester County. My search for the B-17 on that date will continue, the co-ordinates of the crash are 52x42 degrees North by 00.55 degrees West but the folks
around that place say no B-17 ever crashed there. I wish you well..........Brandon J.White.

My son received a letter from a french gentleman whose village had been saved due to the heroic efforts of the crew of "The Mugger" and was attempting to establish contact with any surviving members
and/or their families. In checking the man's credential's, I came upon your website and was amazed to find so much sad, but wonderful information. The gentleman of whom I speak hopes to prepare a
ceremony for the 65th anniversary of when "The Mugger" went down on July 4th, 1943 in the village of Noyen sur Sarthe. How incredible that our men who lived and died for this country are being
honored outside of it?
On another note, having read some of the guest comments, I understand that you will be shutting down and that saddens me since I have just discovered you. Your website is critical to the memory
of the veterans who have served valiantly for freedom and to the families who love them still. Thank you so very much.

I've been checking this website for some 3 years now, perhaps. It is sad that the BGA is dissolving at the end of the year, although I understand why.
I have expressed my interest, as a family member of a deceased 303rd veteran, to keep a next generation version of the 303rd BGA going.
Hopefully, there are enough of you children and grandchildren of veterans still interested in learning more about what your parents and grandparents did during WWII.

I have been collecting and documenting the history of our World War II Veterans since 1998. I currently have over 200 veterans from all branches and ranks, in my “private library”. I have always been
interested in World War II and what better way to learn this is to talk to the men and women who lived it. It is my way of keeping their memories and stories alive.
For every World War II Veteran we loose, a piece of history is gone forever. I believe that it should be told to someone who is willing to take the time to document their story.
For the men and women, who served during World War II, they all have a great story to tell, whether they were in combat or sitting behind a desk. They answered the call to duty in a time when more the
half the world was at war.
When it is my time to pass on, all this information will be placed in the General Patton Museum in Chiriaco Summit, CA so that future generations will know what these men and women went through. One
day, all of our Veterans from World War II, will have passed on and so will their stories.

I would just like to thank the 303rd BG (H) Historical Association for a fantastic reunion in Washington DC. My brother and I attended in honor of our father Alfred Hollritt (427th Sq). He passed
away in 2005 but no doubt if he were with us he would have been among the handful of veterans in attendance. He loved the reunions and was lucky enough to attend the “Final Mission” reunion in
England in 2000. It’s something my brother Barry and I will never forget. You may have had a final return to your airfield at Molesworth, and a final reunion here in the United States. But as long
as this site remains active there will never be a final chapter in your history. The 303rd Bomb Group fly’s every day from these pages! Thanks again Gary.
Now enjoy a wonderful story out of RAF
Alconbury (Part of the JAC based at molesworth) about a former 303rd veteran family member’s return to Molesworth. Just another indication that we, the family members recall and honor the
contribution you made in the war effort and final victory in the airwar over Europe.

What a wonderful web site. I had an old friend (Sam Edwards) who flew Left Waist Gun on "Lady Luck" (Griffin's crew), he shared so many stories with me most of them serious ones but some were quite
humorous . Some of the personal stories and photos he shared made me feel like I knew you guys personally. I will never forget your service to our country. Feel free to e mail me if you like.
I also had an uncle who flew tail gun in B24s in a different group (Joseph Tayman), who was shot down and captured during the Ploesti mission in 1943.

My Uncle, 2Lt John G. Leverton (N)(POW), bailed out of the Meat Hound (358BS) on 1-11-44 while on mission #98, was recovered from the Zuider Zee by a German patrol boat and became a POW in Stalag Luft
One. He remained a POW until liberated in advance of Russian occupation. At that time, he was the navigator for 1Lt Jack W. Watson's crew. I would very much appreciate hearing from anyone who knew
John. Photographs would be treasured. He died a few years ago but we deeply honor his service for our country.

I am a 385th BG veteran and member of the North Alabama Chapter of the 8th Air Force Historical Society.
We have built a replica Briefing Room in a local veterans Museum. We have all of the equipment we wore in combat, except the Parachute Harness.
We use the Briefing Room to give talks to local schools and other civic groups. They are always impressed with what we wore. We have a helmit and goggles, oxygen mask, throat mike, bunny suit (blue
electric suit) including boot inserts and gloves, fleece lined jacket, pants, boots, mae west, and an authentic flack vest--but we lack the parachute harness! Since you now have the real thing, would
you consider selling one reproduction harness to us for our museum?? Thanks, Bill Varnedoe Navigator, Crow Crew, 550Sq, 385BG Treasurer, N AL Chapter, 8AFHS
